Letter to Parents
This morning there was a report that a student had a knife at school and his behaviour was worrisome. He had been directed to leave the building more than once by an administrator and was non-compliant. With the lunch dismissal imminent, the school administrative team decided to go into a lockdown situation as the student was still in the building. The police had already been called for support. Once we learned that the student in question had left the building, we communicated to the staff and students that we were no longer in a lock down situation but we required them to remain in their classroom until further information from the police was received.
The student in question was apprehended by the police. Both the school and the police will be following up with their investigation of the incident. The school followed divisional protocol and all staff and students are commended for their professionalism and understanding.
